If creativity begins with an idea, then necessity truly is the mother of invention. As an evolutionary development towards the survival of species, our capacity to generate ideas to resolve immediate conflicts has served a significant role in the development of the human race. This has been profoundly impacted by our ability to share information and acquire knowledge through verbal, pictorial and written language. From cave walls, to the Gutenberg Bible, the documentation of our history and our ideas afforded the ability of those that followed to learn, develop and generate new ideas. Through this shared knowledge, we gained the capacity to address long-term, systematic problems, not just those that were accute and of the moment. The more knowledge that a body holds, the greater the capacity to find associations between those points of knowledge. It’s been said that knowledge is power. While this is certainly true, I like to think of knowledge as the mother of opportunity.
If you are curious about the image above, it was created for my good friend Loic Zimmermann for his film “Kruz”. A version of the image was used as a prop in the film, letterpressed onto a ticket that appear on screen. Pretty cool. It’s a reference to Adam and Eve and maybe not perfect for the message today, but hey, it’s what I’ve got. I’ll be sharing some of the work on this project in a post in the near future. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer for “Kruz” on Vimeo. It’s cinematically stunning. I also designed the logo for Loic’s production company that appears at the start of the film.
